This week...
...we took a trip down to the river. It has definitely been hot enough. This time dad got to go with us. That's always a special treat.
...we had basketball camp at the church. I decided that I could teach my kids a lot about basketball without having to pay a crazy fee for each of them to try it out. Good in theory, not so good in execution. They couldn't handle Coach Mom. I made them run lines. If they wimped out I made them start all over and do it again. Benjamin and Claire both had trouble with this. I had to physically pick them up and run with them. Ben wanted a drink. I wouldn't let him get one until he'd finished running his lines. Oh, we had a break down. We worked on dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense. It was fun to see them work at everything and enlightening to see how quickly they fell into fits when I asked them to do drills.
Here's my group minus Ben. Look how tired and sweaty they are. This was the first day when energies were still high.
Here's Benjamin. He made it through the lines, crying of course, and then relegated himself to the chairs for the rest of the time.
My girls
Working on bounce passes. You can see the look of terror on Claire's face. She was so afraid it would bounce her in the nose.
Paul working on his shot...I put them on chairs so they could get an idea of what it felt like to push the ball up towards the hoop and make a shot. I told them not to jump on the chair while they practiced. That would be bad. :)
..Jason showed his car and lights to our neighbor kids, the Bagleys. It was so fun to see all of our kids crowded in there with them to get a look at the inside of a cop car. It never gets old.
Our wonderful
As we were walking along in the parade, we saw quite a few people that we knew. That was fun to be able to actually wave at familiar faces. We did run out of candy before the end; we just couldn't help ourselves at the beginning of the route. ;) I saw Terri Moon from girls camp (she's the one who taught us the camp call). We both scrambled and sputtered to call out the first part. She won, so I called back with the second part. It was hilarious!
...we celebrated the Fourth in traditional family gathering fashion. We had friends and family over for dinner and the fireworks show. It's always so fun to have everyone gather together.
Lainey was loving the corn on the cob.
Family friend David Hamilton brought two pop ups which made for some great shade.
Claire with cousins Payton, Ashley, and Emily. Looks like Lainey's not the only one who likes her some corn. :)
Friends came to eat and visit. Amber Riner and her kids, Taya, Paxton, and baby Emmett on the ground. Kyle and Nitosha Richardson with son Riker (baby Hiram in her tummy).
Jason made these misters this morning. It was so hot at the beginning of the week, and especially this morning, that Jason wanted a way for the everyone to cool off. I was a little worried that he was starting such a project on the morning of our big gathering, but he was done just a couple hours later. The kids loved them. Luckily we adults didn't have to resort to using them because a breeze started up in the afternoon, keeping us cool.
Taya passed out the candy filled poppers. As you can see, Cousin Ethan was so excited to get his.
Everyone gathering for the fireworks show. Amber and baby; Adrian and Angie Sandoval with baby Bria; Bella Sandoval w/ basket; Grant and Jennifer; Grandma E, Stephanie and kids; Grandpa E and Uncle Bill; Emily Hamilton at the door.
